Guess what?
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is routinely watching you! Peekaboo Uncle Sam!
How do we know this?
Well, the Department of Homeland security has released a document that says that it's been monitoring various social media sites since June 2010.
They've been monitoring everything from gossip sites to forums. They say that this is to, in simple terms, give them an idea of the general atmosphere of the world, and to be on the lookout during large-scale events.
Do not worry readers, they are not interested in what you have been doing with your friends (should they be?) or in the photos of your dog. The document states that they have only crawled publicly available data to get "situational awareness." However, your publicly available data will stay on the governments servers for up to 5 years.
The list of monitored sites is surely very long, but it is confirmed that sites that cover global events or topics, the usual social media suspects, and, of course, WikiLeaks, are all being watched.
So, as always, although the government might not be interested in what you post on your social media sites, other people might be, so post with caution!
